Grade 4-6

Here are some games that we have played at school and you can play at home.  Ask a sibling or an adult to play with you.

Place Value Top It:

1. Get four pieces of paper and cut them into ten pieces.
2  On the pieces, write the numbers 0-9.  (You will have 4 sets of numbers.)
3. On another piece of paper, make a place value chart to the hundred millions.
It should look similar to this:

4.  Players take turns picking a number from the pile and placing it on the place value chart.
5.  After each player has taken 9 turns and placed a number in each place value, they read their number.
6.  The player with the greatest number wins the game.

Place Value Computation:

1. Get two pieces of paper and cut each of them into ten pieces.
2  On the pieces, write the numbers 0-9.  (You will have 2 sets of numbers.)
3.  Put the numbers in a pile, face down on the table.  Each player can pick 8 cards,
4.  Arrange your cards to make two different numbers in the thousands.  Make greatest numbers possible,
(Hint: Place the largest numbers in the thousands place, next largest in the hundreds, and so on.)

So, if I got the numbers 9, 7, 6, 6, 4, 4, 4, 3, I would make the numbers 9,644 and 7,631.

5. Next , add you numbers together.  The player with the greater sum gets a point.
6. The player that gets to ten points first wins the game.

Game Variations:
*  Try to get the least number possible.  (Place your smallest numbers in the thousands, and next smallest in the hundreds, and so on.)
*  Try this game with subtraction instead of addition
*  Pick 4 cards to make 2 numbers (2 digit numbers).  Multiply the numbers together.

Multiplication Top It:

1. Get four pieces of paper and cut them into ten pieces.

3. Each player picks 2 cards and multiplies them together.
4. The player with the greater number gets all the cards from this round.
5. The game continues until one player has all the cards.
